Food for Thought

The referendum has seen an unprecedented level of engagement in social and political discussions across Scotland – Early Days came from our belief that we needed to keep this energy up, and channel that interest into making Scotland and the UK a place to be proud of. After all, if people turned out in the same numbers they did to vote last Thursday to do something self-less for their community, Scotland would be well on its way to becoming a better nation for us all to live in.

This week, Early Days is focusing on and raising awareness of food banks. That we have to have food banks at all is a disgrace, but they’re here right now, so let’s help make them full to bursting point. Two days after the referendum there was an impromptu donation in Glasgow’s George Square – why not make things like that a regular occurrence? Several of our members are already going to give their time as well – try to get along and donate or volunteer to help make things better for people who need help and support. Give some food; give some time; make a real difference for people who just need a break.

There was also a wonderful story about a 21 year old in Glasgow, who -instead of asking for gifts on his birthday – asked everyone to donate to food banks instead. This student’s selflessness and compassion are an example to all of us, and shows the impact just one person can have. Have you got a birthday coming up? Use it to help others and inspire positive change.

Here is a list of just SOME of the food banks open around Scotland. Is there one near you? Take a small amount of time aside today contribute your small act to make a big difference.

Please SHARE this list to encourage individual altruistic action to inspire mass change.

“Work as if you live in the #earlydays of a better nation.”

Its only #earlydays but together we can make a difference.
